Musings of Laughter and Christmas…and swimming?

So today was a hectic day. Lots of odd things in my personal life going on. The gaming world looks to be taking some pleasant turns, and there was much geekery and laughter had today.

First, highlights of the gaming day.

Final Fantasy XIII launched today in 日本. I’m so jealous.
The special edition FFXIII also launched today in Japan.

It may be my brain, but does this seem suggestive to anyone else?

Joystiq has the unboxing here

Also in similar related news, the US will see the release of my personal favorite Final Fantasy game of all time, Final Fantasy VIII, coming to the PSN ‘relatively soon.’ I cannot wait. From the gunblades, to the story, to the magic system, to the touches of sci-fi thrown into a mostly high-fantasy type of setting, this was the epitome of storytelling for me for the franchise. X was good, XII is probably number two or three in my book (tied or slightly behind VII and IX can just go to hell.)

In other geek news, the guys with the microsoft surface table are at it again with their d&d shenanigans. Peep the video below:

Other than that, most of the day was spent with Rand Al’Thor, Egwaine the Amyrlin Seat, Nynaeve and the Seanchan. I’m into chapter nine, much quicker than I was expecting, but with an hour drive to springfield and an hour back, I covered some ground. I’m about 1/6th through the book, which is odd because I felt like I’m spending a lot more time with the characters than previous books. And I’m liking it.

Other than that, I found out halfway up the journey that my nephew is in academic malfeasance. I ended up waiting for him to finish his homework that would be due in tandem with his finals tomorrow. I was also assured by him that he’d do better. We embarked on our quest for LULZ as we headed to the rifftrax live event (Christmas shortstraviganza).

On the way, I found he was lacking in several memes he should be up on, and so thanks to the power of my iPhone and a cassette adapter for sound in my car, my mobile intarwebs educated on such memes as Yo-dawg:

CWuttheydidthar? That one at the end is my favorite. And I am deeply, madly in love with the know your meme crowd over at rocketboom.

UPDATE: Speak of the meme above, and it appears. In article over at Joystiq, they open with a Yo Dawg (although, inexplicably omitting the opening phrase). –Mark

Anyways, we caught some Arby’s and then headed to the Shortstravaganza. My newphew was crying. All the shorts were scary hilarious, and I’m terrified of Santa Claus on a very personal level now. How some of this stuff passed off in the past I will never know. Downright scary. But funny! They must have done 6 or 7 shorts, with three hilarious commercials. The only week one was a swimming short… don’t quite understand why it was included, but after tonight, I will never be able to look at Shia LeBouf the same way again.

All in all, if you missed the Rifftrax Live special tonight, it would behoove you to catch the replay tomorrow evening (Thursday evening, the 17th). It will be well worth your time and $12.50. So sayeth the spiiider.

For tonight, that is all.
