Videogame Preview Trifecta: Star Trek, Avengers, Puppeteer

• Obviously, the Star Trek game based on the new universe isn’t going to convert any haters, what with all the shooting and running and jumping and more shooting, but I can’t deny the appeal of a game that makes me fight some seriously mean-looking Gorns. I admit, I kind of wish they were wearing clothes — I prefer Trek when it stays a little corny — but if I get to build a Gorn Cannon all is forgiven.• I was wondering why this Avengers game looked like a terrible version of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and why anyone would take the biggest movie hit of the year and make such a sub-standard game out of it, and then I realized it’s for WiiU and Xbox Kinect. So that answers that.• Meanwhile, Puppeteer is a platform game that looks infinitely better than the videogame tie-in to the third highest-grossing movie of all time. Here’s the plot:

One dark moonlit night, a young boy named Kutaro was carried away by the maleficent Moon Bear King to a black castle where the unlucky lad was transformed into a puppet.

Kutaro displeased the terrible tyrant, who devoured the boy’s wooden head and cast away his body.
But the headless hero was not alone, for he had discovered a very special pair of scissors to help him on his harrowing adventure to find his head, and his way home.Headless puppets? Scissor-based gameplay? Gorgeous graphics? Very interesting. Thanks to perenniel tipster SlyDante for the assist.
