Disney Infinity 2.0 – Marvel Superheroes Announced
Disney hosted a live event today to unveil it’s Disney Infinity 2.0 – Marvel Superheroes. Now before you get concerned, all previous figures, discs and playsets will work.
Clark Gregg hosted the event, and was good doing so — leading me to believe there is nothing the man can’t do well.
Launch will be this fall and will be on PS3, Xbox360, Iphone and Android, PC and for the first time coming to PS4 and Xbox One.
18 new characters from the marvel universe (and more disney-related characters to be announced as well) including spider man, guardians of the Galaxy (Rocket Racoon and Groot confirmed), as well as M.O.D.O.K. and Loki.
Figures shown today were the Avengers – Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Hulk.
Levels are huge – 4 times larger than the Incredibles playset. According to what they said, you WILL be able to play multiplayer in the storylines as well as toybox. They have expanded character’s level cap to Level 20.
Saying they have listened to fan feedback, they have included toybox structured play via game discs and will start with two modes: Tower Defense and Dungeon crawl. More on that in a moment.
They felt it was difficult for people (especially kids) to build quality spaces, so they have refined the creation toolset, including an amazing city brush for building, racetracks, dungeons, castles, treehouses via procedural generation. Or turn builders loose on the city ala sim city and refine after they finish doing their thing. They have also created ‘External Doors’ to create internal structures and customize as you please for interior spaces of an object.

Multiple versions of cap’s shield development were lining the walls of our newly built ‘home’ in one of the internal areas demoed.
As for the structured, power disc-based gameplay, each type will take you around 3 to 4 hours to complete. The tower defense game shown was Asgard, featuring a horde-mode like scenario once you set traps down. They said there were 12 levels in that game alone.
As for the dungeon crawl, they use the procedural generation to create dungeons for you and your friends to play through. The interesting thing was that there are sidekicks in dungeon crawl that level up and enhance your abilities.
Other refinements to the creation tools include new logic to create entire game experiences
and templates of logic and items to create entire games quickly. In the demo shown, the orb collection minigame (race around the environment and bash through all the dots within the allotted timeframe) from the main campaign was shown being placed, and then the creator just needs to move the items wherever they wish in the environment.
80 new power discs in 2 different waves will be released, with some new types included – team ups, costumes and vehicles in addition to previous types. Lola confirmed.
Also citing fan feedback, abilities and skill trees for character development have been implemented, allowing for each person’s character to be unique.
