IGN’s week of Grand Theft Auto V is upon us. Each and every day, we’ll be bringing you screens, opinions, interviews and Wednesday’s trailer. But before you dive headlong into that and start daydreaming about robbing armored cars and burning Jeeps to the ground, here’s you GTA V crash course.

These are the V things you need to know about GTA V.

Single-player stories with one character are so 2008. Grand Theft Auto V is giving you three characters to control in Spring 2013. Michael is basically the GTA protagonist who won. He has the mansion estate in the Rockford Hills, snotty family, and a cushy spot in the witness protection program. Trevor’s the opposite side of the coin; he and Michael were besties back in the day, but something happened. Michael ended up in the lap of luxury and Trevor ended up in the desert, in a trailer, and insane. Franklin is the new kid on the block. A young kid Rockstar’s Dan Houser describes as “the gang-banger in the post-gang-banging world.” When he crosses paths with Michael, the trio is formed.
