JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD Review

Not 20 minutes after I started digging into JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD for review, a friend of mine shot me a text to ask me what I thought. Without pause, I replied that it was like The Village People had invaded the Cowboy Bebop universe and brought as much methamphetamine as they could carry. Feel free to take that however you’d like, but for my part, I meant it as a compliment.

Originally released in 2000 on the PS1 and the ill-fated Dreamcast (sniffle), JoJo’s was a 2D fighting game quite unlike any other. But as vibrant and innovative as it was, it was so far ahead of its time that most of the Street Fighter-loving masses simply couldn’t wrap their brains around it. Heck, even the Darkstalkers players thought it was weird, which is saying a lot. But weird isn’t bad, and neither is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD. It’s a solid port of on oft-forgotten game from Capcom’s vault that deserves the attention of modern fight fans, even if it is a bit light on features and outdated in some respects.
