Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus Review

When Guilty Gear smashed onto the fighting scene in the late 90’s with its outrageous characters and towering guitar riffs, it was like a brass-knuckled punch to the gut…in a totally awesome way. Mainstream 2D fighters had mostly been wallowing in the shallow pool of martial arts tropes, but Arc System Works just stomped their way into the sandbox and asked, “Heavy metal and anime!?”, then proceeded to melt faces with a fast, fun, highly technical fighting game that took everyone by surprise.

Finally, after years of having to break out their PS2 sticks just to play it, fans’ prayers have been answered. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, arguably the best game to ever bear the name, is finally out on modern consoles, and fans can rest assured that it made the transition near perfectly. While it’s missing a couple of modern amenities like a widescreen display mode and replay support, that doesn’t change the fact that Accent Core is an immensely enjoyable fighter for beginners and experts alike.
