Fun with music.

So I broke down at the beginning of the month and bought this:

It’s a Casio Privia PX-330BK in case you were wondering. I bought it for several reasons, first of which is I’ve always wanted to learn to play the piano. This *is* a grand piano, full-keyboard. It is also a synthesizer with both MIDI and USB out.

The main reason I broke down and purchased it was for this:

See, they have a ‘Pro’ mode that will teach me to play. Of course, I’ve gotten a head start, thanks to youtube and several thousand other ‘learn to play’ online resources. I know (I think!) where middle C is, and I’m ok playing with my right hand. I still haven’t learned what to do with the left one yet since it’s backwards, but that’s ok. All in good time.

Anyways, I’ve had some audio programs lying around gathering dust since I used to do the podcast, and I thought to myself, “Self, let’s test out the midi!’

It kicks so much ass, I can’t even describe it. I’m still learning my way around the program, but I made this song in about two hours:

It’s called DarkNotes, and it’s a pretty simple trance track with a haunting melody. That’s me on all the parts. I love technology!

I’m going to try to put an album together, just so I can scratch it off the list. I’ll probably be doing more than 10 songs, some with vocals and some without. I’ve had some songs rolling around upstairs for quite a while, and now it’s just a matter of channeling them.

The kickass thing about my music software is it actually does composition recording, so now I have music charts of all my parts. Neato!

Anyways, if you like piano and/or trance/dance, check out the song and tell me whatcha think.

Excelsior!
