Far Cry 3 Sells 4.5 Million Copies

When Far Cry 3 launched late in 2012, it surprised gamers with its expansive, immersive open world and rock-solid gameplay. It was a critical success — IGN gave it a 9.0 — but it was unclear if it would also resonate with the gaming masses.

Now, we know that it has.

Ubisoft has revealed that Far Cry 3 has sold 4.5 million copies so far across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. This number accounts for both retail and digital sales. Unfortunately, unlike with Assassin’s Creed, we don’t know if Ubisoft plans on doing another game in the series in the future, though sales this strong indicate that the publisher no doubt has to consider it.
