Confirmed: Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Coming to PS3

Last week, we reported on some exciting news for fans of the PlayStation-exclusive franchise Yakuza. The first two games appeared to be PS3-bound in HD form, but when we reached out to SEGA for official confirmation, they refused to comment.

But good news. Andriasang has posted an image from the newest issue of Famitsu confirming that the games do indeed exist. Little information is known otherwise — SEGA still hasn’t officially commented on the games — but their appearance in Famitsu all but confirms their existence.

The original Yakuza came to PlayStation 2 in Japan back in 2005 and was ported to the west in 2006. Its sequel, aptly named Yakuza 2, came to PlayStation 2 in Japan in 2006, but the west didn’t get it until two years later. Presumably, this collection will combine the two games on PlayStation 3 and give ‘em HD gloss and Trophies. But without SEGA’s confirmation, we’ll have to wait to learn more concrete details. However, the original story from last week noted the collection’s high cost, suggesting that this will indeed be a disc-based release, and not digital.
