A College History Class About Video Games? Sign Me Up. [Civilization]

A College History Class About Video Games? Sign Me Up.I have a history degree from the Australian National University. Earned through books, and papers. I used to be totally OK with that, until today, when I see that history students at the University of South Carolina have it way better.

Prof. Joseph November is running a class next year called Computer Games and History. In which students play, and discuss, games like Company of Heroes, the Total War series, Civilization and even…Fallout 3. I’m guessing for its Cold War-inspired origins.

It’s not a joke either; the whole point of the course is to examine each game and see not only how it goes about portraying history, but what this says about the medium of video games and how they can help people’s understanding of our past.

It’s something I’ve looked at previously on Kotaku before, but boy, spending a whole class doing it. Some kids get all the luck.
