Grand Theft Auto Publisher Nearly Financed Amalur Sequel

Take-Two Interactive nearly brought a Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning sequel to life. According to a new interview with 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling, 38 Studios was “close to a pact” with Take-Two and the deal was ready for “final sign-off” until Take-Two was “spooked” by negative comments from Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chaffee and pulled out.

This fits with previous reports about an Amalur sequel, which suggested that a publisher interested in Reckoning pulled out of a $35 million deal to finance Reckoning 2 after Chaffee called the first game in the series a “failure.” When asked about the deal, a Take-Two spokesperson simply said “I am not aware that there were any negotiations. We do not comment on rumors and speculation.”
