3DS Surpasses PS3 Lifetime Sales in Japan

The Nintendo 3DS is kicking some serious butt in its home country of Japan. In fact, Nintendo’s latest generation of portables has even surpassed the PlayStation 3 in lifetime sales, moving more units in less than two years than the PS3 sold in more than six years.

This development is all thanks to last week’s numbers, as Nintendo sold another 211,499 3DS systems the week of December 3 alone. That brought 3DS lifetime sales in Japan up to a whopping 8,799,378, which is just a few notches above the PS3’s lifetime sales of 8,716,260. Again, recall that the 3DS came out March 2012, while the PS3 came out November 2006.
