A new trailer also reveals retailer exclusives

Warner Bros. has released an intense new trailer for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, revealing how the game’s rune system will work.
In Shadow of Mordor, Talion possess three weapons: a sword, a dagger, and a bow. Killing enemy captains, or higher ranked enemies will cause them to drop runes, with its attributes defined by the manner in which you killed your foe, so while some will increase the damage done by your fire arrows, others will make your stealth takedowns that much more effective.
Getting the best runs in the game is no easy task, however. You’ll have to dominate an enemy captain and have him courier a death threat to his overlord, at which stage the frightened orc will assemble a rather potent bodyguard to protect him. Taking him down then is far from easy but, as the above video shows, the spoils are well worth it.

Other news from today’s announcement includes the fact that retailers will be offering a number of pre-order exclusives in addition to the Dark Ranger pack already announced. These include various runes that provide bonus damage in certain situations, including the Deadly Archer Rune (via Amazon), Flame of Arnor Rune (via Best Buy), Captain of the Watch/Hidden Blade Rune (via GameStop) and the Orc Slayer Rune (via Steam).
