Players given option as “a shortcut to catch up with their friends.”

Battlefield 4 now has a microtransaction model with the addition of purchasable “BattlePacks.”
You can earn BattlePacks through normal game progression, and DICE previously gave some out for free in February as part of its Player Appreciation Month. The studio announced today that you can now purchase them as well, in three tiers: Bronze ($1), Silver ($2), and Gold ($3).
BattlePacks contain a random mixture of accessories, emblem shapes, profile pictures, dog tags, knives, paints, and XP boosts. The higher tiers receive more items, as well as an increased chance for rarer items. DICE states that the packs can still be earned through regular play, “but we are now giving players the option to purchase Battlepacks as a shortcut to catch up with their friends on the Battlefield.”
