What Are Square Enix's Upcoming 'Large Scale Online Titles'?

Set for release this year.

Square Enix has released its financial results for the year ending March 31, 2014, revealing a return to profit and teasing “large-scale online titles developed by Western studios starting from the fiscal year ending March 2015”.
Quite what these could be is unclear – while it could be talking about the new Deus Ex universe, we’re not expecting to see that before the next financial year, and Square is promising we’ll see more than one of these titles before then. Expansions for its existing MMOs wouldn’t be made by Western studios, so should we be expecting some big reveals come E3?

The company’s annual report reveals a profit of $65 million was made in the previous 12 months, where the year before a loss of $135 million was incurred. Net sales were up 4.8 percent.
As mentioned last week, Thief, Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition all helped on this front, thanks to “favourable” sales. Star performer Final Fantasy XIV was credited with making “favourable progress”; hardly surprising seeing as it’s been praised for changing the company’s fortunes.
Hopefully we’ll hear something about the new titles soon. Seeing as the financial report also indicates that there was “an extraordinary loss as a result of a comprehensive review on work-in-progress game titles,” it seems likely that these may be projects that have been worked on for a while.

Alongside the large-scale online titles, Square’s expectations for the next 12 months are fairly similar to the ones just reported. An increased amount of money is expected from online games as a result of both the US and European markets becoming dominated by certain companies.
