By the Power of Grayskull…And Fake Action Figure Ads

The winner of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe 30th Anniversary Create-A-Character Contest for his Castle Grayskull Man, toy designer Daniel Benedict just posted the above toy commercial to his YouTube page. Since it features a Stan Bush-esque rock song and deliberate AV degrading, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this was a genuine video relic from the Where’s the Beef? era. More than just a homage to the 1980s, this spot exists to show off a customized version of Benedict’s creation from toy sculptor Joe Amaro. The resulting “Warlords of the Universe” figure (known as a Castle Warrior to you army-building fans out there) would make a proud addition to anyone’s custom toy collection…if you can actually score one of the Castle Grayskull Men when MattyCollector puts them up for sale on Thursday. Good luck with that.
