Sailor Moon Crystal Act 13 – Final Battle: Reincarnation (SPOILERS)

So, this was going to be the last episode in the first arc – or so everyone thought.  I think a lot of people are really excited to see the Black Moon Arc begin, so maybe were disappointed that there’s still one more episode to go before we get there.  But I’m glad they’re stretching out the end a little more.  I think it will bring a little bit better closure to the Arc, instead of having it uber-condensed.

We start off where we did last week, with Usagi killing Metalia/Mamoru (Metalamoru…?), and then killing herself.  The Silver Crystal comes out and swallows them up, and the whole bundle gets swallowed up by Metalia.  Metalia is a LOT more menacing in this version of the story than she was in the manga.  In the original anime, she was just a background character that fused with other characters, so we didn’t get to see her unleashed like this before.

The other Senshi are, of course, upset that Usagi is gone.  They try to attack, but don’t even make a dent with Sailor Planet Attack.  They then decide to also kill themselves for the cause as the whole earth gets sucked up into Metalia and turns the world to darkness and zombies.  So, they use their transformation power, but Metalia totally crushes it – so she thinks.  As with most Sailor Moon villains, she’s not confident in the power of love and friendship, which are Usagi’s greatest strengths.  And I gotta say, when each girl got the power to stand back up against Metalia by remembering Usagi and hearing her laughter and just being her friendly, loving, goofy self, I got the feels hardcore.

The light of the Senshi’s sacrifice reaches Usagi inside Metalia, and she realizes that she can’t even get killing herself right.  The moon phase watch stopped the sword (that’s a damn strong watch).  She uses the crystal to get out of Metalia’s body with Mamoru, who she also couldn’t kill correctly (you had ONE JOB, Usagi), because the stones of the Four Kings of Heaven stopped it.  So, I guess they could have had a chance to be resurrected but sacrificed it for their Master.  Awww.  It’s touching, but I was kinda hoping that they would come back fully since we were in uncharted territory with them lasting as long as they did.  It would have been cool to have them just as regular dudes so Mamoru could have some friends besides the girls.  Kunzite’s phantom points out that the cross on Metalia’s forehead is her core, so aim for that.  You think someone would have wondered about that before.  I mean, she’s just a glob of energy, but has this strange mark on her forehead…. dur.

Usagi tries to use the power of the Silver Crystal to banish Metalia, but she doesn’t think she’s strong enough.  Mamoru points out that she’s Sailor Moon for fuck’s sake, and she should be a bad ass.  She realizes Mamoru has always given her the power to be stronger, just like all her friends also give her that power, and she’s able to control the Silver Crystal, and gets a new Moon Rod as well.  She’s about to go all BAMF on Metalia’s ass, and we get to the end of the episode.

The preview for next week doesn’t show anything about Chibi-Usa or the Black Moon Arc, but the title implies that we might get to see a peek of her.  I was never a huge fan of Chibi-Usa, so I’m hoping that I’ll like her in this new version, since Crystal changed my opinion on Tuxedo Mask and Mamoru (I still don’t like him in the original anime, but he’s alright in this one).
